These were often produced by hobbyists at home in their garage workshops, improving on existing mass produced models for a limited enthusiast audience. More recently there has been a rapid expansion of high quality, low run models, particularly from Japan and the United States. Anime, monsters and spacecraft are the main output. This alien queen kit is a great example, hard to find, expensive and highly finished.
