newsletter#02 June 2018

Welcome to my second newsletter.

I have created several new works this year, some of which have been published on this website. Having acquired a lot more larger scale plastic objects, mainly from the streets of North London, there has been a lot of deconstruction and reassembling.

I have a second Dyson vacuum, also in grey and yellow, ready to dissemble and mutate. I want to stick to the insect theme of the first Dyson, and I really like the idea of a big beetle, maybe a Stag or Scarab.

I have also been working on a couple of new themes or approaches. '20000leagues', a new piece in the larger works portfolio is an amalgamation of material from multiple sources, and a direct reference to a moment in the fantastic underwater adventure by Jules Verne. It was fun to pick and choose the right objects from different sources and wrap it up into another nautical themed work. I like the idea of doing a series of works based on famous sea stories such as Moby Dick or Robinson Crusoe from the age of adventure stories, and it goes with ’Survive The Savage Sea’, from the epic true sea survival story too.

In contrast to these literal references in my work, I have also been playing with abstract shapes and colour in a new series of repetition works, ’systemaddict’. I just like the bright intensity of the blues against the reds in this one, and can imagine something much larger one day.

Finally, I don’t know how I missed the story of the 1000s of Kinder-like eggs that washed up on a beach in Germany last year- Find it in the container spills blog.
