As part of an exciting group project centred around Kings Cross London in the 1990s when there was plenty of derelict space, this installation explored a more theatrical staging of events than previous works, and was influenced by prop making and scenery construction. I have always had a fascination with geological processes, and wanted to create an environment in which to imagine time stretching out into a future of decay, change and erosion, settling into the foundations of the building's basement. As the water flowed through the collapsing columns I wanted you to be hypnotised by the sound and movement of change, to imagine the imminent collapse of the building possibly, or perhaps these eroding columns are beginning to grow again as the salts in the rain collect and form into new structures.
